Most grooming sessions for small dogs take 2-3 hours. It depends on the following factors.
Cooperation of Dog: Dogs that are docile are safer and easier to groom, while a hyperactive or fearful dog may require a much longer time as the Pet groomer would need them to stay still in order to scissor trim them. Attempting to trim a dog while they are moving a lot is dangerous and Pet Groomers have to manage this and hence may take longer than expected.
Tangles/Matts/Undercoat: If you seldom or never brush your dog’s fur, it is almost certain that they will get tangles or matted fur. There are 2 main fur types, Single coat dog e.g. Poodles, Maltese, their fur gets tangled if not brushed regularly and these tangles may form into matts over a period of time. If you own a double coated dog e.g. Bichons, Shetlands, Corgi, Husky, and you do not brush them regularly, undercoat will accumulate beneath their main coat and very often these fur will form into matts. When these dogs come for grooming, and tangles and matts are detected, it will not be possible for the Pet Groomer to do a Proper scissor trim on them. Showering them can also worsen the tangles/Matts and cause dampness on their fur because matted fur can trap moisture and even worse accumulate bacteria. And trying to trim on a tangled matted dog will end up with an undesirable outcome. This means the outcome will be unbalanced and unsightly and this goes against the principles of Pet care and Grooming; the training and professionalism being taught to Pet Groomers. If your dog is tangled or matted or has heavy undercoat, the Pet Groomers will need to detangle, de-matt or de-shed your dog. This is time consuming and there are additional charges for it.
Appointment Time: The earliest appointment slots are the best. There are unlikely to be potential delays. If you book a midday or end of day slot there is a possibility, we may encounter unexpected situations in the earlier appointments that may delay the later slots. These unexpected situations may be Tangles/matts/Undercoat, hyperactive or aggressive dogs, which may delay the Pet Groomers time.

Unfortunately, your presence might cause excitement or attention seeking behaviours in your dog, this will make it difficult for the Pet Groomer to calm your dog and to keep your dog still to proceed with the trimming. Hence it is better to leave your dog here with us for the grooming session and you may proceed back after we have completed the grooming session.
